A photo gallery dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the Caspian Shipping Company is open for public in Baku Metro

A photo gallery “Shipping – 160” is open for public in Ganjlik Metro station within the framework of “Metro Gallery” Project co-organized by Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company and Baku Metro. This time residents and guests of capital Baku have a unique opportunity to watch rare photos representing history of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company in main vestibules of all four exits of the station.

The official opening ceremony took place on the first day of the photo exhibition. Mehman Mehdiyev, the press secretary of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company made an opening speech said that over 90 photos are demonstrated in the exhibition dedicated to 160th anniversary of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company:

“Each photo represents different periods of Azerbaijan’s Shipping history in the Caspian Sea. Visitors will have a unique opportunity to see interesting photos of first ships of the Caspian Sea, well-known seafarers, oil fields, traders, etc.”

The exhibition presents rare photos, which were stored in various archives. A significant part of these photographs was found through research of the journalist-researcher, the editor of the Baku Media Center, the honored worker of culture Musallim Hasanov. He is the author of a historical and documentary book written by the order of the Shipping Company, underlining that every photo is a bearer of a great historical heritage. He further emphasized that the photographs were acquired both in the archives of Azerbaijan and Russia.

Next speech was made by Mukhtar Akhundov, the captain Mukhtar Akhundov who spoke about the history of the Shipping Company, rich in heroism and its current dynamic development.

Bakhtiyar Mammadov, press secretary of “Baku Metro” said that this project is the continuation of actions under the social programs pursued by Baku Metro. “We hope that this exhibition, which we organized jointly with the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company will cause great interest of people. This exposition exhibit rare photos which we have never seen before”.

Each exhibited photo provide an annotation. Furthermore, visitors of the exhibition are given necessary opportunity to get virtual information on exhibited photos. Using smartphones, visitors are able to enter the electronic gallery in the official website of Baku Metro through the QR code available on each photo and download high quality photos.

The photos will be on display by the end of the year. Metro passengers – residents and guests of Baku city, as well as all who show interest in this topic, will gain a unique opportunity to make a virtual journey to the history of development of the shipping in the Caspian Sea.
