“Barda” ferry returned to service after overhaul
The overhaul of the “Barda” ferry, operated by ASCO, a company under AZCON Holding, has been successfully completed.
As part of the works carried out at the Zigh Ship Repair and Construction Yard, hull and welding operations, piping installation and electrical works were performed, while the steam boiler and watertight doors were renewed. In addition, the mechanical and electrical systems of the deck cranes, as well as locomotive and wagon securing equipment, were adjusted.
The above-water section of the ferry and the wagon deck were cleaned and painted with a double coating. Crew accommodation areas, service rooms and sanitary facilities were also renovated.
After completion of the overhaul, the vessel was returned to service and, on its first voyage, delivered 32 wagons and 12 trailers to the Turkmenbashi Port of Turkmenistan.
The ferry is 154 metres long and 17 metres wide, with a maximum speed of 12.5 knots. Its deadweight is 5,500 tonnes.
