The “Open Doors Day” was held in the Azerbaijan State Marine Academy

The Azerbaijan State Marine Academy (ASMA) held an open day – a meeting with the newly arrived students and their parents.

Along with the chairman of the “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping” CJSC Rauf Veliyev, the rector of the Azerbaijan State Marine Academy, Chingiz Aliyev, the leadership of the Shipyard, “Caspian Marine Services”, the shipping company’s staff and the teaching staff of the Academy took part in the event too.

The Rector of the Azerbaijan State Marine Academy Chingiz Aliyev gave information about the results of this year’s students admission, organization of education in the Academy, and the facilities created for the students.

He further reported that there has been a significant increase in the admission of the students to ASMA with high scores this year as well. Thus, twenty-nine students scored 500-600 points, and three students’ scores ranged from 600 to 700 points. This year, the Academy will teach 1 student from Turkmenistan and 5 students from Turkey.

Chingiz Aliyev highlighted that students are provided free of charge with educational materials, dormitory, uniforms and two hot meals a day. Only this year, 10 lab kits were installed in accordance with the recommendation of the Shipping Company’s Administration. The modern simulators and laboratories give us the opportunity to train professional cadres.

The Chairman of the “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping” CJSC Rauf Veliyev during his speech, gave a detailed information for the participants on the history of the Shipping company. He noted that the development of maritime in our country has gone through long and glorious way. In virtue of the success of this way, that started in 1858, the ACS is now able to compete with the world’s leading companies: “This year Shipping Company marks its 160th jubilee. Being part of a large company that witnessed three centuries is a pride giving feeling for everyone. I firmly believe that as the future professional staff, you will be able to further existing seafaring opportunities of Azerbaijan. And you’ll be worthy of the name of the sailor, considered a prestigious profession at all times”.

Rauf Veliyev also spoke about the conditions created at the Azerbaijan State Marine Academy. He noted that the “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping” CJSC constantly renders support to the educational institution: “Special attention is paid to the training of specialists and increasing the workforce capacity. For the first time this year, at the Marine Academy the major on “Marine Navigation Engineering” will be taught English. Since last year, distinguished students have been awarded additional scholarships at the expense of “ACS” CJSC. More than 50 ASMA students have benefited from this opportunity”.

Furthermore, the Chairman of the Society pointed out that for the purpose of providing the development and improving the professionalism of the students of the Azerbaijani State Marine Academy in accordance with the international standards, students have chance to practice on ACS’s ships sailing in the external waters. He noted that more than 10 students took advantage of this opportunity during the last academic year. He also stressed that in compliance with the “ACS” CJSC Scholarship Program, everything necessary is provided for sending ASMA graduates to the world’s prestigious higher education institutions to obtain a master’s degree every year.

Rauf Veliyev highlighted that all this is primarily aimed at increasing students’ interest in education and supporting them to gain professionalism in seafaring. On the other hand, it shows that in forming its workforce capacity, the Caspian Sea Shipping Company gives preference for young, educated seafarers who comply with international standards.

“Our company has important strategic goals. One of these aims is to build strong human resources. That is why we have many expectations from the students of the Marine Academy. All the necessary conditions have been provided here. Those who finish their education with good marks, will get the “Letter of Guarantee” from the “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping” CJSC to ensure their employment.

Chairman of the CJSC said that graduates of ASMA have the opportunity to work all over the world.

“This year, two young “ACS” employees were sent to practice in “Columbia Shipmanagement Ltd.” At the end of the project a positive feedback was given to these participants and relevant certificates were issued to them. Moreover, “Columbia Shipmanagement Ltd” has made a job offer to these young people. However, both young men said, that they wanted to continue their work in the Shipping company. This shows that the graduates of the ASMA are in demand all over the world as professional personnel. Such opportunities will be given to graduates who finished their studies at the Academy showing high results”.

Later, the film which was prepared on the personnel policy of the “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping” CJSC, entitled “Human is our wealth” was presented to the audience. The film focuses on such important issues as human resources planning, development of the knowledge and skills of the personnel, assessment of their service performance, improvement of social security, rewarding and encouragement, ensuring safe and healthy working conditions.

At the end, young people and parents had a chance to make questions, and also express their wishes and desires.

At the event, it was reported that in 2018, 9 students graduated with honors from the Academy. Three of them were awarded diplomas with distinction from ASMA and also badges were given to them. The remaining six graduates are now fulfilling their duty to their Homeland.

Further on, three students who entered the ASMA with high scores were given student tickets and prizes.

After the end of the official part, the participants got acquainted with the gym and the auditoriums located in the main building of the Marine Academy. Guests were offered a lunch in the dining room of the Academy. Thus, parents checked out the quality of the food.
