“Akademik Hasan Aliyev” ferry returns to service after major overhaul

The “Akademik Hasan Aliyev” ferry, operated by ASCO, a company under AZCON Holding, has undergone a major overhaul.

The repair works were carried out at the Zigh Ship Repair and Construction Yard and were completed within a short period and to a high standard.

During the overhaul, the ferry’s underwater and above-water hull sections, lower and upper railway decks, main deck, engine room and superstructure were cleaned and repainted. Propulsion mechanisms, including the propeller shafts, were repaired and restored to proper operating condition, while piping works were carried out on the decks and in the engine room. In addition, radio navigation, electrical and automation systems were serviced on board the ferry.

Furthermore, the ferry’s accommodation and service areas were renovated in line with modern requirements.

After successfully passing sea trials, the ferry has been returned to cargo operations along the Middle Corridor. As part of this, the vessel completed its first voyage on the Turkmenbashi–Baku port route.

The ferry is 154.5 metres long and 18.3 metres wide. With a total deadweight of 2,425 tonnes, it is capable of carrying 32 trucks and 28 railway wagons simultaneously.
