ASCO has strengthened safety measures in connection with the weather conditions

Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) took a number of precautionary measures in the Caspian basin and Absheron peninsula due to the critical changes in the weather conditions.

ASCO’s ships were given a written notice and instructed appropriately about the sharp fluctuations in the weather conditions and about the actions they need to undertake. The captains of all vessels were instructed to strictly adhere to instructions on safety measures that should be taken in connection with the sharp change in weather conditions. In addition, relevant structural divisions were instructed to check if all ships and floating structures (platforms) anchored in bridges are properly fastened, replace unusable ropes and steel (wire) ropes with the new ones, remove staircases (gangplanks) installed between bridges and ships and follow other necessary tasks to be given. At the same time, duty vessels were assigned for each region by the fleets in order to take immediate action in connection with emergency situations.

Furthermore, the Company took necessary measures in order to ensure coordination among various actions and strengthen the centralized control.

According to the National Hydrometeorology Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, weather conditions will change drastically in the country starting from the night from January 16 to 17 until January 18. It is forecasted that on January 17-18, the speed of north-western wind will be 20-25 m / s, with intensifying up to 30-35 m / s, and up to 38-40 m / s in the open sea. The height of waves is forecasted to be about 3.0- 5.0 meters, and 6.0-8.0 meters and more at the next stage.
