ASCO held a “Safety Day”
“A safety day” was held in the CJSC “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company” (ASCO) with the attendance of the managerial staff, all captain and mechanics assigned to ASCO ships.
Alakbar Azizli, head of the Quality, Health, Occupational Safety and Environmental Protection Department (HSE) made a comprehensive presentation at the event. He made a look at major incidents recorded last year in the global shipping industry and provided his explanation about the reasons for their occurrence.
Further, he presented general overview of major incidents recorded in the fourth quarter of 2018 in the Azerbaijan Caspian Sea Shipping Company. The overall safety, fire and environment- related shortcomings were highlighted, and the reports on recurrently occurred insufficiencies were presented. The participants discussed the outcomes of the external and internal audit conducted in ASCO and its fleet, changes made in the “Safety Management System (SMS) in the Fourth Quarter of the last year, statistics on HSE and medical examination in the fleets and offices for the fourth quarter of 2018.
The awareness raising materials (video clips, newsletters) prepared to prevent the potential incidents were demonstrated in the event, with a focus on the works done in 2018 and the targets for 2019.
ASCO Chairman Rauf Valiyev spoke at “Safe Day”. He said that the issue of safety was always given a special attention in the shipping industry. He said that ASCO has set strict requirements for safety, and every employee should follow these requirements.
Detailed information was also provided on the HSE trainings held in the CJSC “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company” and their significance. It was reported that thanks to the increased awareness raising activities, a decrease was recorded in the number of incidents. It was highlight the special role of case investigation and analysis in reaching positive results.
